Subject: Refers to the Greek-speaking Macedonia
Subject: Refers to the Greek-speaking Macedonia
The present volume contains the results of some re searches into the folklore of the Greek-speaking parts of Macedonia, carried on in 1900-1 by the author under the auspices of the Electors to the Prendergast Studentship and of the Governing Body of Emmanuel College. The materials thus derived from oral tradition have, in some cases, been supplemented from local publications. Among the latter, special mention must be made of the two excellent booklets on the antiquities and folklore of Liakkovikia, by A. D. Gousios, a native schoolmaster, frequently quoted in the following pages. The peasant almanacks have also yielded a few additional sayings concerning the months.

Subject: Excellent!
Subject: Excellent!
An excellent description of Macedonian traditional customs, habits and popular beliefs, written in the last decade of Ottoman rule and shortly before Macedonia was liberated and included within the boundaries of mother Greece.Being descended from one of those Macedonian territories(Serres) visited by G.Abbott in early 20th century and whose folklore has been so vividly and picturesquely described by him,I am really fascinated with reading about some of our native costums and traditions with which I have grown up and which have been passed down to us from generation to generation from time immemorable.Especially when the origin of some of them is clearly traced back to similar ancient Hellenic costums and practices.
